Refresh on the Wall Easel

When my friend Renee Mueller told me that she loved my wall easel so much, she would make one for her studio and paint it white. I thought, "wait! why didn't I paint mine white?"

So on Saturday, I did just that. It took me over 3 hours to paint this easel as I used a small brush (I didn't think about that one!), and it needed two coats of paint.

I liked how the pine strips matched the ceiling and tied it together, but I also thought the cross lines were a bit distracting when I hung up multiple paintings, especially in photos and videos. Plus the white would also allow all my colors to pop right off the wall!

The paint color is "Swiss Coffee," and it's from Kelly Moore. I'm using a satin finish. We love this color; the inside of the studio and house are both painted in this creamy white.

At first, I was a bit nervous about painting over this beautiful wooden wall easel as these panels are from the original walls in our house from 1940. But I soon got over that when I saw how beautiful it looked. So bright and airy.

Also, you may notice that I have my 2021 Vision Board hung on this easel as a reminder to stay "focused". That was my word for this year. If you are interested in creating your own board I offer a free class here:

Here is a photo from the original wall easel and if you would like to read the blog post on how we built it hop over to this post: https://www.andreagarvey.com/post/my-favorite-kind-of-art-easel

Have a great week! xo Andrea

The white paint was the right call. The pine had charm, sure, but it was stealing attention from the art. Clean background, louder colors. Kind of like Mii Generator— a simple browser tool for making retro Mii-style avatars without installing anything.

Painting over the knotty pine was a bold move, but honestly the white wall easel does its job better. The wood had charm, sure, but it was stealing attention from the paintings. Now the colors actually get to speak.

Also, for anyone turning studio videos, art talks, or class recordings into notes,Whisper Web is a free in-browser speech-to-text tool that transcribes audio privately on your device, with no uploads.

I downloaded Pixel Flow on a train because I had no signal strong enough for anything else, and I figured a puzzle game was safe. What surprised me was how readable the whole thing is for a new player. You see a blocky object made of colored cubes, a line of little pigs coming in with their own colors and ammo counts, and you pretty much get the job right away. Send matching colors, clear the board, don’t jam your reserve slots. But then the shapes start hiding colors inside other colors and suddenly you’re peeling layers on purpose. That tiny jump from simple to sneaky is why I stayed.

i started beads out while half-watching tv and then had to pause the show because mystery boxes showed up and i actually needed to pay attention. that’s kind of what i like about it. it starts off looking like background noise and then suddenly you need to leave space open on purpose because you know a hidden color reveal is about to mess with you.
