Altered angels

“The Altered Angels were born from a large bag of alteration scraps. Fabrics, yarn, floss, and old buttons also came from my “leftover stash.” Waste nothing! The Altered Angels are meant to convey the belief that angels may be anywhere. They enter the world in many different forms. Believe it! You may be near one right now!”

- Donna Blacher Propis

These incredible dolls were handmade by my "other-mother", Donna Propis, who was my next-door neighbor growing up. I spent many afternoons at her house crafting all sorts of things, from deconstructing Champion sweatshirts into patchwork designs or making ugly Santa dolls from pantyhose. We were always stitching, knitting, or gluing something she had salvaged from flea markets or thrift stores.

She has been a huge inspiration to me, not only with her creativity but also with her kind heart and generosity to others. Donna is also one of the wisest people I know. One piece of advice she gave me that I will never forget is, “your children’s friends will never remember how neat or tidy your house was, but only that they felt comfortable or loved in your home.” So true!

Recently Donna sent me one of her Altered Angels, a new doll collection she’s been working on. I instantly fell in love, and I thought I was not the only one who would LOVE one of these Angels. So, we came up with a plan to make that happen!

Donna doesn’t make these Angels for a side business; she makes them for her creative outlet that brings her comfort and peace. Each one of these unique, hand-made dolls is now available for sale, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to one of Donna’s favorite charities – Save The Michaels and Horizon Health Services. They are both dedicated to providing support, education & treatment for anyone struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues.

These beautiful Angels are waiting to fly to their forever home - which one will you choose?
